Year 4 Croque Monsieur Workshop

Posted on:

The children of Year 4 class have turned into proper cooks when this Wednesday as they were taken to French restaurant Frederic Bistro in Maidstone. They had the chance to taste a true croque-monsieur which they had prepared themselves under the supervision of inspiring chef and owner of the restaurant Ulric Allsbrooke.

Everyone was either very excited or somehow apprehensive at the thought of tasting cheese, but all had a go and I can’t remember anyone leaving a crumb. After “second helpings”, the adults were also allowed to taste the children’s “masterpieces”; there were even some leftover to take back to school.

After eating the appetising croque-monsieurs, Ulric invited the children to show their knowledge of French culture with a discussion about gastronomy, especially cheese, art, geography and the children took this opportunity to ask question and learn new information and vocabulary. I believe a lot of the children will be inspired by this visit to venture into further cooking or gastronomy discoveries. Well done to Year 4 for their smart interventions and questions during the discussion and their praised behaviour.
